About Joel

After graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Joel Scott began his career with Opera Australia. In 2016, he was awarded the German-Australian Opera grant to undertake a season at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. There he debuted as Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Annas in Jesus Christ Superstar, Flavio in Norma, Roderigo in Otello, Der Steuermann in Die Fliegende Holländer, Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhaüser, and Vana Kudrjas in Kata kabanova.

In the following season, he joined the ensemble at the Theater am Goetheplatz Bremen where he increased his repertoire with Jaquino in Fidelio, Pedrillo in Die Entführung Aus dem Serail, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, and Tapioca in L’Etoile.

Since then he has performed in concert roles and as a member of the chorus in Theater Magdeburg and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. In 2024, Scott returned to his hometown, performing as Tamino in The Magic Flute at Sydney Opera House.

With a deeply honest and arrestingly human sound, Joel Scott possesses a strikingly beautiful tenor voice — both theatrically scaled and intimately expressive. He brings an innate emotional intelligence to his singing, making each performance feel spontaneous and authentically shared.
